My Role: UX/UI, Backend Dev., Technical Writer

Platform: Mobile (Android)

Duration: Sept-Nov 2021

Why MeetWhere?

It started off as an academic software project as part of my curriculum and happened to be in the midst of COVID-19. We came up with an idea of suggesting places to meet up while avoiding any COVID-19 hotspots in Singapore. “MeetWhere” is a Singaporean Lingo used in conversation when setting up a location to meet up.

Challenges

  • • First time using Android Studio to develop an native Android App
  • • Algorithm needed to suggest proper places
  • • Retrieving COVID-19 Clusters Information from .gov website

Epilogue

The biggest takeaway from this was applying OOP concepts and good design patterns to reduce repetition of code, creating modular elegant code is something I need to continue to work on. Also, learning working with various open-source APIs is no easy feat as usually the data retrieved requires a bit of cleaning and extraction to fit the project purpose. Lastly, working with Figma, prototyping out the entire flow of the app is crucial in building an mobile app because it paints a general idea for the team to follow and achieve.
